The Richmond Hill Fire Department will be hosting an open house at Station 1, located at 9964 Ford Ave, on Wednesday, May 15th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This event will be open to the public and no reservations or advanced notice is required. All ages are welcome and light refreshments will be provided. There is ample parking in the rear of the building, off Ellis Dr.
The department’s open house, the first under Chief Greene’s leadership, will offer an opportunity to meet and greet the firefighters, take a tour of the station and equipment, spray a working fire hose, and practice getting dressed quickly in firefighting gear.
The main event will be a vehicle extrication demo at 6 p.m., where the firefighters will show the audience how they use special equipment to cut a vehicle away from a person who is trapped inside due to an accident or other emergency.
This open house will be the first since at least 2016, and according to Greene, “We are going to try and have them a couple times per year”.
