South Bryan County, GA – The new elementary school currently being built off Warren Hill Road has now been officially named ‘Frances Meeks Elementary School’. This decision was announced at the most recent school board meeting.
Mrs. Meeks is known locally as the “First Lady of Bryan County Schools” having taught almost every grade in the county as well as holding the position of principal at both Richmond Hill Elementary and Primary schools.
According to Superintendent Dr. Paul Brooksher, the aim was to identify someone who has played a significant role in the educational life of Bryan County students and the community as a whole. Mrs. Meeks served on the school board for many years following her retirement and has been involved with public education for more than 40 years.
Amy Murphy, Bryan County Board of Education Chairman, said “The Board of Education is honored to celebrate Mrs. Meeks’ legacy of fostering strong public education in Bryan County. As we look forward to our exciting future, we remember the solid foundation that she was instrumental in building.”
The school will house 1,200 pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students and is expected to open in August 2020.
