Former Councilmember and Mayor Pro-tempore Tara Baraniak left a void in many places around the City of Richmond Hill after she resigned from her position on City Council back in August to pursue opportunities in Jacksonville, where she moved with her family.
Two distinct voids were left on the council itself. Her position on City Council is being filled through the regular election on November 5th by either David London or Robbie Ward. Her position as the City’s Mayor Pro-Tempore was filled on Tuesday by Councilmember Kristi Cox.
According to the Richmond Hill City Charter, “During any disability or absence of the mayor, the mayor pro tempore shall preside at all meetings of the city council and shall assume the duties and powers of the mayor.” Essentially, Cox’s duty will be to act as the mayor in their absence.
Cox has served on Post 1 of the City Council since winning the special election back in March, replacing the late Johnny Murphy.
This decision was motioned by Councilmember Bill Donahue and approved unanimously.
